I just received word today, that our brother SK JR Savoie has been released from treatment through Heartland and has returned home. He still has a ways to go, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He is also open to visitors. If you should have some open time, he would love to see you…
~ January, 2017 ~
This is a catch up post on JR’s condition. At some point in mid January, JR developed additional complications from his recent stay in the hospital. It required a return to ICU for an extended period fighting MRSA. He underwent two more surgeries, eventually being released to the care of Heartland in Whitehall. His journey has been a very long and difficult one. We continue to keep SK JR Savoie in our thoughts and prayers.

Jarrett Savoie Update – 10:08 a.m.
As you recall from my last message to you, JR was experiencing severe pain in one of his arms and had to be transported to Mercy Emergency via ambulance. Once there he was diagnosed with having contracted MRSA. He was admitted to ICU, placed on medications and scheduled for surgery this past Thursday.
Earlier today, I received the following update from his son Jarrett:
The surgery Thursday went well. They had to remove some damaged tissue and schedule an additional surgery for today to perform some needed skin grafts. Things went well today, but JR remains very ill. Only immediate family are allowed in to see him.
Although not able to receive visitors, Jarrett indicated he appreciates card. He is in room 209. The family ask for prayers to continue and they will update us as events change…

Jarrett Savoie Update – 3:10 pm
Dear Brother Knights, my Dad’s surgery today was originally set for 9:30 today but it was pushed forward to 7 this morning. My sister received a call from the doctor around 1:00 telling her the surgery went excellent. He did end up having a triple bypass and that they were going to keep him on the oxygen for a little extra time. Thanks again for all the prayers

.Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 12:15 p.m.
October 18, 2016
JR met with the doctors this morning and he was given the results of yesterday’s Cardio Cath evaluation. He was informed that the best approach to resolving his heath condition would be surgery. However, he’s not strong enough at this time and would need to go for rehab until he had fully recovered from the pulmonary failure he experienced. JR asked if they would consider Heartland in Whitehall. He was told that the social workers would check into the possibility after further testing by the physical therapist.
While JR has made great progress he is not out of the woods and continues to need your support and prayers. We pray with you that God will guide the doctors and JR’s decisions.

Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 8:40 am
Oct 17, 2016
JR continues to be stable and has been approved to move out of CICU when a room becomes available. He is to undergo further evaluation today in order to develop a treatment plan. He has daily physical therapy but remains weak. We remain positive that with God’s guidance and the Doctor’s skills there will be a positive outcome and that JR will enjoy many more Fish at St. James.

Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 11:08 am
UPDATE for Oct 14, 2016
JR is out of STAGE 1, “Survival” and is now in STAGE 2 “ Medical Evaluation” The medial staff met with JR this morning and had the results of yesterday’s Cardiogram. His heart is recovering faster than anticipated and is showing less damage than was expected. Today they will be performing a viability study and doing a PETScan. This will provide a detailed report on JR’s heart condition and provide them the plan for STAGE 3 “Treatment” JR has continued to improve and will be moved out of CICU into the general cardio treatment unit today.
While all seems to be moving in the right direct, JR is still a very sick individual. The medical staff have been calling him the Miracle Man and have been commenting on the power of your prayers. JR’s family is humbled and want to express their gratitude for your continued assistance.

Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 4:07 pm
Here is an update for Wednesday October 12, 2016
Dear friends of JR Savoie. Today was another great day for JR. The medical team evaluated him and he was able to start eating soft foods. Nothing exciting to eat but this is a start. They will be keeping JR in the CICU while they stabilize him and he gains strength. He remains somewhat disoriented and is recovering from the paralytics he was on. JR was able to be moved from his bed to a chair and helped to stand for several minutes. Once he gains in strength they will be evaluating his cardiac condition and determining whether he can be treat by medications, surgery or both.
JR remains in critical condition and needs the power of your prayers and the skills of the University of Michigan cardiac team. He is very grateful for the strength you provide.

Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 4:45 pm
Tuesday 10-11-16 Update
Today we received proof that medicine and faith work well together with prayer. JR was able to be removed from the ventilator and is breathing on his own. He’s talking and those that know JR know that he thinks he’s in charge and is trying to directing everyone. We’ll hopefully learn more tomorrow as to how the doctors plan to address his cardiac issues. He not out of the woods but we can feel God’s peace through the power of your prayers.

Marcel Savoie ( JR’s Brother) Update – 12:55 pm
I’m Marcel Savoie, JR’s brother, also a member of Council James V. Casey # 9349 , in Littleton Colorado. Here is JR’s update for today.
October 11th, 2016
At 9:45 the medical team met and reviewed JR’s progress. It was great to hear that they felt he had made significant progress. While he is very ill and in critical condition they felt they could reduce the medications further and allow JR a higher level of awareness. They will be doing breathing test to see if JR has progressed to a point where the ventilator could be removed tomorrow. In the interim, he will be medicate to reduce his restlessness.
JR is able to open his eyes, nod his head and move his arms and legs. While in discomfort from the ventilator, he is able to respond to questions. While the medical team working with JR are exception we ask God to guide their hands and help them make the right decisions. Your prayers are being felt and provide JR and our family the comfort that the medical team can’t. While we all pray God’s help we understand and accept His will shall be done
Vivat Jesus.

I really like the page you made for him. I want to give you an update on him for the day. They have taken him off his blood pressure meds and his oxygen is now down to 40. His peep is down to 10 and he is doing good. He has been doing good today. He has yet to wake up but we feel it could be tomorrow before he does. They did a x-ray on his lungs and compared them from the last two days and they have improved a bunch. Thanks to all the knights for the prayers that you have blessed our family with. Good Afternoon Sir Knights,
JR continues to fight on with the slow, but continued efforts of improvement. The oxygen levels produced by the respirator are slowly falling nearing levels to where they will be able to remove him from the respirator. At that point he will no longer require a respirator for breathing. Medical staff are now working to clear his lungs. Prayer works. Please continue to pray for JR Savoie’s recovery and for his family in this trying time. Below is a link to the Our Lady of White Lake Council 12985 web site that will have updated information on JR Savoie.

Brothers;
About an hour or so ago I received an update on the current condition of our brother JR Savoie. His son Jarrett passed on to me that yesterday they were successful in dropping his oxygen levels from 95% to 60%. That was a good thing, although his levels have not gone any lower. For now, he is reliant on the respirator. To get off the machine, his numbers will have to continue to drop. His family remains at his side hoping and praying for change, but it is slow to come. They are grateful for all the continued support and prayers being offered for JR and his family. Please brothers, keep them coming. JR’s time is getting critical and he needs our prayers more now than ever. As your Grand Knight I’ve appreciated hearing back from several of you towards JR and am pleased at how strong and solid our council stands together and supports one another in our times of need. All of you make me very proud to be a Knight and be of this council…

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS |

What is a degree?
For lack of a better definition, a “Degree” can loosely be interpreted as “being introduced to a new principal”. Being of a lower degree does not really affect what you can be involved in or what activities you can contribute to. However, all officers and 4th Degree applicants must have already obtained their 3rd degree.
In a degree ceremony you are introduced to one of the four principals that the Knights of Columbus holds in high regard. In your 1st degree, you learn the principal of “charity”. In the 2nd degree you learn the principal of “unity”. In your 3rd degree, you learn the principal of “fraternity”. Finally, in your 4th degree, you learn the principle of “patriotism”. It’d these four principals that we base all of our actions. To move forward, you must learn each in detail.
First Degree Ceremony – Charity
The first degree ceremony is for prospective Knights that wish to enter the order. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age, Male, and a Catholic in good standing. An application needs to be filled out and submitted to a fellow Knight who will read it at a business meeting. Once the applicant is approved and sponsored, he is invited to attend the next council first degree ceremony.

Second and Third Degree Ceremonies – Unity & Fraternity
The 2nd & 3rd degree ceremony does not have any requirements or applications to fill out. (Your council dues cover the cost of the ceremony). The ceremonies are also typically done together, so a Knight will have jumped from a 1st degree to 3rd degree. Knight by the end of the process. Since the ceremony is held usually at another council, Knights of our council usually carpool together in support of one another.
.
.
.
Fourth Degree Ceremony – Patriotism
The 4th degree ceremony is a big moment for a Knight and his family. The prospective 4th degree candidate will be in a ceremony for most of the day, while his wife attends functions specially arranged for her. This day is for both the Knight and his spouse which includes activities for both. A black tie celebration for the Knight and his spouse is held that evening.
To apply for the 4th degree exemplification, you must have attained your 3rd degree and been a Knight for at least 6 months. An application has to be filled out and degree fees have to be submitted. The ceremony and celebration after is a black tie event.
.
.
.
Fourth Degree Honor Guards
Certain members of the 4th degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions. This activity has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus. You may recognize 4th degree Honor Guard members as they wear a tux, colorful caps, chapeaux (feathered hats), white gloves, and a sword.
